Travel Insurance Plans
Your health plan almost certainly stops at the border. We compare travel medical and trip protection plans for vacations, business travel, study abroad and visitors coming to the United States — and explain what each one actually pays for before you buy.
Travel insurance: what to expect
Travel insurance covers two very different risks, and most people only think about one of them.
Medical care abroad
The money you prepaid
Getting you home
Quotes across every travel plan and carrier
Tell us where you are going, how long for, and how much of the trip is already paid. We put the real numbers side by side — premium, deductible, medical maximum, evacuation limit and what is excluded — so you can see what you are buying.
If you would rather ask a question first, a licensed agent can talk it through with no obligation.
Travel insurance key benefits
Three structures cover most travel needs. They solve different problems, so the right answer depends on what you stand to lose.
Travel medical insurance
Trip protection
Annual multi-trip plans
Compare the difference in travel plans
The choice comes down to what you are protecting: your health while you are away, or the money you already spent getting there.
| Feature | Travel medical | Trip protection | Annual multi-trip |
|---|---|---|---|
| In short | Health coverage while you are abroad | Protects the money you prepaid | One policy covering a year of trips |
| What it pays for | Emergency treatment, hospital stays, doctor visits and evacuation outside the United States. | Non-refundable flights, hotels, tours and deposits when a covered reason forces you to cancel or cut a trip short. | Usually travel medical, sometimes with trip protection bundled, across unlimited trips under a set length. |

What travel plans typically cover
Limits, deductibles and exclusions vary by carrier and destination — worth confirming before you travel.
Common questions
Does my health insurance work overseas?
Usually not. Most US plans cover emergencies abroad only in a very limited way, and Original Medicare covers almost nothing outside the country. Check your own plan documents, but assume you are uninsured abroad until you confirm otherwise.
When do I need to buy trip protection?
Soon after your first deposit. Many benefits — pre-existing condition waivers and Cancel For Any Reason in particular — are only available if you buy within a set number of days of that first payment. Waiting is the most common way people lose access to the coverage they wanted.
What is Cancel For Any Reason?
An optional upgrade that lets you cancel for reasons a standard policy would not cover. It reimburses a percentage of your trip cost rather than all of it, must usually be purchased early, and requires you to cancel a set number of days before departure.
Are pre-existing conditions covered?
Often excluded by default, but many plans offer a waiver if you buy early and are medically fit to travel at the time of purchase. Tell your agent about any ongoing condition before you buy rather than after a claim is denied.
Can visitors to the United States get coverage?
Yes. Visitor medical plans are written for people traveling to the US — parents visiting family, extended stays, and new arrivals waiting on other coverage. They are not major medical plans and do not satisfy any US coverage requirement, but they cover emergency care during the visit.
What is medical evacuation, and do I need it?
It pays to move you to a facility that can actually treat you, or home if that is medically necessary. An air ambulance can cost more than a house. If you are traveling anywhere remote, on a cruise, or somewhere with limited hospitals, it is the single benefit worth checking the limit on.

All Solution Plus is a licensed insurance agency. We do not offer every plan available in your area. Travel insurance benefits, exclusions, deductibles, coverage limits, eligibility and pricing vary by carrier, destination, age and length of travel. Pre-existing medical conditions may be excluded unless a waiver applies. Travel medical insurance is not major medical coverage and does not satisfy any US health coverage requirement. Any information we provide is limited to the plans we offer. Coverage is governed solely by the terms of the policy issued.
